Frequently Asked Questions
We want your shopping experience with us to be as delightful as our chocolates. That’s why we’ve gathered some of the questions we’re asked most often - and answered them with a little wave of our (chocolate) wand.
How long do your truffles keep?
Our truffles are made with fresh cream, so you might expect a short shelf life. However, while we don’t use artificial preservatives, our technique stabilises the cream and gives the truffles much more longevity. We recommend enjoying them within four weeks for the best flavour and texture, though they will keep longer if stored correctly. Over time, nut coatings may soften and flavours can become less pronounced. That said, even after six months they can still taste surprisingly good - but let’s be honest, resisting them for that long would take real magic. Read more about truffle storage in our blog.
How strong are your liqueur truffles?
My liqueur truffles are made with real alcohol, never flavourings or concentrates. If a truffle is described as being made with Gordon’s gin, for example, that’s exactly what it contains. Each liqueur ganache has at least 1 tablespoon of alcohol per 100g of chocolate - often more, never less. They are not liquid-filled chocolates; instead, the alcohol is blended into the ganache to create a flavour that lingers as an aftertaste or gentle warmth rather than the intensity of a shot. Perception of strength can vary - some people find the flavour quite distinct, while others with a higher tolerance may find it more subtle.
How long do the chocolate shoes keep?
he chocolate we use has a shelf life of at least six months to eighteen months. While we know our finished chocolate shoes and bars will last well beyond that, we prefer to give them a shorter “best before” date of around six months. This way, you can be sure the chocolate tastes just as fresh and delicious as the day it was made. Read more about storing your chocolate in our blog.
Can I store your products in the fridge?
It’s best to store chocolate in a cool, dry place rather than in the fridge. Domestic fridges are quite humid, and the moisture combined with rapid temperature changes can cause even perfectly tempered chocolate to develop a sticky surface or “bloom” (a white, streaky coating). Bloom is often mistaken for mould, but it isn’t - it’s simply the cocoa butter rising to the surface. The chocolate may not look its best, but it’s still perfectly safe to eat.
